Vir-Con Trivia Challenge

Official Rules

 

Vir-Con Trivia Challenge is brought you by The Official US Star Trek Fan Club. By clicking on Play on your PADD, you agree to the following Official Rules.  If you do not agree to the Official Rules, you may not play.

I.  Eligibility. 

You must be 18 years of age or older as of August 1, 2002. Employees, directors, officers and agents of virtual-conventions, llc, Why Communications, Paramount Pictures Corporation, and their respective parents, sisters, subsidiaries and affiliates, and any other person or entity directly associated with this Trivia Challenge (collectively, “Sponsor”), and all immediate family members and/or persons living in the same households as such persons, are not eligible. This Contest of skill is void where restricted or prohibited.

 

II. The Trivia Challenge.

 

1.    First Round. A Trivia Challenge will be played each day, August 2, 3, 4, 2002 starting at 10:00 AM. Each Trivia Challenge has three rounds, 10:00 AM PST, 12:00 PM PST and 3:00 PM PST.  Each round consists of five (5) questions with four (4) multiple choices answers.

 

2.    Players are timed as they answer questions based on the server clock and measured to one millisecond.  When players Submit their answers, they are ranked by the following criteria:

A)    Number of correct answers.

B)   The official time it took to answer the questions and post the answers.

Do not click on Start unless you are ready.  Clicking on Start will begin the clock and it cannot be stopped, there is no disputing the official clock for any reason.

 

3.    Final Round. The daily Trivia Challenges will end each day at 4:00 PM PST.  The top six (6) players from each day will be eligible to participate in the final three-round Trivia Challenge playoff at 5:30 PM PST Sunday August 4, 2002

 

4.    The standings will be posted in your PADD and can be viewed by clicking on Trivia Challenge.

 

III. How To Play.

 

Step 1:  Click on Trivia Challenge on your PADD to review standings.

 

Step 2:  Click on Play on your PADD, read instructions and indicate your acceptance of the Official Rules and click on Start.

 

Step 3:  Answer the questions as quickly as you can and click on Submit to enter your answers.

 

Step 4:  Click on Play on your PADD any time after the published Trivia Challenge round times when you are ready and repeat the steps 2 & 3.

 

2.  Trivia Challenge Period.   Participate beginning 10:00 a.m. Pacific Standard Time (PST) August 2, 2002 until 6:00 p.m. PST on August 4, 2002 (“Trivia Challenge Period”). Your entry is deemed received when click on Submit on your PADD.

 

3.  Other Entry Information. Entries will be deemed made by the authorized account holder logged into Vir-Con based on compliance with the rules.  The authorized account holder is deemed to be the natural person who has activated his/her account at www.vir-con.net.  Sponsor assumes no responsibility for lost, late, mis-delivered, mis-directed or incomplete entries, or for any computer, online or technical malfunctions that may occur. You may only play once each day during the First Round and during the Final Round, and only one person may enter per each authorized e-mail account.

 

IV. Winner Notification.   

Winners will be notified by email or by phone at the Sponsor’s discretion on or about August 10, 2002, unless later selected as an alternate winner.  Winners will be requested to confirm receipt of notification within two business days of notice via email to an email address that will be supplied in the notification of winning, or they will be disqualified, and alternate winner will be selected from the next highest player not already chosen as a winner.

 

V.  Prizes. 

Daily

One (1) first prize winner will receive one Activision Bridge Commander PC game and other official Star Trek merchandise of approximate retail value: $200.  See Quick Help from the Vir-Con 2002 home page or your PADD for a complete listing.

 

Five (5) second prize winners will each receive official Star Trek merchandise of approximate retail value: $75.  See Quick Help from the Vir-Con 2002 home page or your PADD for a complete listing.

 

Ten (10) third prize winners will each receive official Star Trek merchandise of approximate retail value: $45.  See Quick Help from the Vir-Con 2002 home page or your PADD for a complete listing.

 

Grand Prize

One (1) grand prize winner will receive one developer–signed Activision Bridge Commander PC game and other official Star Trek merchandise of approximate retail value: $400.  See Quick Help from the Vir-Con 2002 home page or your PADD for a complete listing.

 

Approximate Total Value of All Prizes:   $1,050.

 

No requests for substitution transfer or cash equivalent of prize permitted. All prizes will be awarded.  Sponsor reserves the right to substitute a prize of equal or greater value should a prize come unavailable.  All taxes on prizes are the sole responsibility of the winners.

 

The winners may be required to provide Sponsor with complete winner information, including social security number.  Winners may be disqualified and/or an alternate winner selected if: the notified winner does not respond to the winner notification within five (5) business days after Sponsor sends it, any prize notification is undeliverable or any prize is returned.  Acceptance of a prize constitutes permission for Sponsor to use a winner’s name, biographical information, address (city and state only), statements, photograph, voice and/or likeness for advertising and promotional purposes without compensation, unless prohibited by law, in all media, now known or hereafter devised, in perpetuity, throughout the universe.  This provision is void where prohibited.

 

VI. Conditions of Entry.

If for any reason the Trivia Contest is not capable of running as planned, including infection by computer virus, bugs, tampering, unauthorized intervention, fraud, technical failures or any other causes beyond the control of Sponsor which corrupt or affect the administration, security, fairness, integrity or proper conduct of this Sweepstakes, Sponsor reserves the right, at its sole discretion, Sponsor reserves the right to terminate, cancel or modify the Trivia Contest and these Official Rules, and/or to disqualify any individual who tampers with the entry process. Sponsor assumes no responsibility for any error, omission, interruption, deletion, defect, delay in operation or transmission, communications line failure, theft or destruction or unauthorized access to, or alteration of, entries. Sponsor is not responsible for any problems or technical malfunction of any telephone network or lines, computer online systems, servers, or providers, computer equipment, software, failure of any email or entry to be received by Sponsor on account of technical problems or traffic congestion on the Internet or at any web site, or any combination thereof, including any injury or damage to participant’s or any other person’s computer related to or resulting from participation or downloading any materials in this Trivia Contest.  CAUTION: ANY ATTEMPT BY AN ENTRANT TO DELIBERATELY DAMAGE ANY WEB SITE OR UNDERMINE THE LEGITIMATE OPERATION OF THE SWEEPSTAKES IS A VIOLATION OF CRIMINAL AND CIVIL LAWS AND SHOULD SUCH AN ATTEMPT BE MADE, SPONSOR RESERVES THE RIGHT TO SEEK DAMAGES FROM ANY SUCH ENTRANT TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW.  By entering this Trivia Contest you agree to release Sponsor from any and all liability arising from your participation in the Trivia Contest and/or use or possession of any Prize.

 

VII. Official Rules /Winner’s List.

VIII.  Other.

The Trivia Challenge is governed by our Terms of Use and our Privacy Policy for Vir-Con 2002 and by the laws of the State of California, U.S.A. If any provision of these Official Rules is inconsistent with the Terms of Use or our Privacy Policy, these Official rules shall govern.  Any dispute arising hereunder shall be brought in Los Angeles County, California.
